Guidelines To Provide Content For Your Website

 Welcome Page/Home Page

This page should be very focused on your visitors:

1.     How is the site going to help the visitor?

2.     Does this site solve a problem, reduce expenses or save time?

3.     Tell them “What’s in it for me?”

4.     Briefly discuss other pages they will find within the site.

5.     If the site will be updated at regular intervals then discuss how       often.

Minimum length: One Paragraph            Maximum length: 4-6 Paragraphs

About Us

This page should tell the visitor who you are and why the site was made:

1.     You can include a photo and names of all the key members in the company.

2.     Give details of educational background, work experience and qualifications, if you wish.

3.     Tell them why you decided to build the site (to serve a global market or service your customers better and faster or solve a problem that you found etc.)

4.     Remember: people are skeptical and they want to know that there are real people behind the site who will take care of them if there is a problem in the future.

Minimum length: Two Paragraphs           Maximum length: 2-3 pages

Contact Us

This page should make it easy for visitors to contact you:

1.     Give as many methods to make contact as you are comfortable with, but keep in mind more methods creates more trust.

 Testimonials

This page should create trust in the visitor’s mind:

1.     If you do not have previous testimonials on hand, you may want to call some of your current or past customers to see if they will write a paragraph endorsement about your products or Customer Service etc.

2.     The testimonial will be more believable with First Name, Last Name, Title, Company and email address. It is very unlikely these people will be contacted to verify their endorsement since it will be assumed that the statement is true based on the fact that they revealed all their personal info. If all the personal data is not available from your customer, don’t worry about it.

Minimum Length: 2-3 Testimonials           Maximum Length: 20-30 Testimonials

F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions)

This page should answer the most commonly asked questions-

1.     Include any questions that your office or store receives when dealing with any new customers.

2.     Anticipate as many Internet related questions that you believe people would need to know when they surf through your site.

3.     When preparing this document you need to number all the questions and place them one under the other without spaces at the top of the page. Directly beneath those questions, you need to repeat the questions and their appropriate answers. In this manner, a visitor can quickly see all the questions and then either scroll through all the Q. and A. or click on a question and “jump down” to the answer.

Minimum Length: 5-6 Questions             Maximum Length: 20-30 questions

 Resources or Recommended Sites

This page should be of great benefit to your visitor:

1.     Include sites that you have found which have related and useful content or products and services that are of interest. Keep in mind that you are endorsing these sites so be careful when choosing.

2.     This page will also help move you up if you submit your site to the Search Engines. A site that connects to more related sites is considered to be more useful to a visitor.

3.     You can either create this page as a list by category with the names underlined so the visitor will know it is a hyperlink or use small banners or write endorsements with “Click Here” in the text.

Minimum Length: 5-10 sites                    Maximum Length: 5-10 sites per new category

Products or Services Page

This page should describe and/or show what you sell:

1.     Unless it is a report, pictures help to sell products and services. Either have a showcase or portfolio of your work or a catalogue of your products. Refer to other e-commerce sites for ideas.

Security/Encryption /SSL Page

This page should make the customer feel comfortable leaving confidential information:

1.     Include one or two paragraphs to describe the software that the site uses to secure and encrypt the data that they are leaving. If the site is not an e-commerce site, then just let visitors know that their information will not be sold to a third party.

 Refer-A-Friend Page

This page should allow the visitor to quickly email a friend or business associate to tell them to check out your site:

1.     This page includes an outgoing email message from your company and the visitor to the visitor’s friend.

 Your Guarantee or Warranty Page

This page should educate the visitor about any product or service guarantees and warranties:

1.     People will want to see it in writing if you have a money back guarantee or warranty on parts and labour.

 In The News/ Press Releases

This page should list any media coverage or Corporate Press releases:

1.     There should be Headlines printed as hyperlinks to the full articles.

Helpful Hints

Follow these guidelines when writing your text:

1.     Refer to other sites in the same industry to get ideas about what to write.

2.     If you do not enjoy writing, make notes and find someone such as a Copywriter to write the Final Draft for you.

3.     Verify for spelling and grammar errors. The entire world has access to read this when it is complete.

4.     Speak in a style that matches the content. If the site is about a serious matter, then leave humor out. If it is appropriate, then make your site fun and enjoyable to visit.

5.     Remember, you can always use your Maintenance Package to make changes in the future.

6.     Keep in mind that the first 30 words on each new page are used to determine the relevance of your site in a Search Engine.

7.     The text will appear EXACTLY as you send it to us in the Word or Word Perfect document. If you do not use italics or bold or underlining or changing font sizes, then it will not appear on the web site either.

8.     You can make notes in a separate file if you wish a Headline or Sub-Headline to appear in a colour other than the colour being used for the main body text.

 Meta Tags

Compile a separate file (30) key words that will be hidden to all visitors but visible to Search Engine spiders:

1.     These are words to describe the contents of your site. Include the most popular words or phrases that someone would key into a Search Engine if they were looking for your site

 2.     Key the words in the following manner: (sample for realtor)

Real Estate Realtors Brokers Realty Property Listing Industrial Property Commercial Investment Property Commercial Real Estate Development Residential Land Houses, Housing Condominiums
